Good for the ego

When I travel to work, to the gym, to Bulgaria, to the library, by bus, by plane, on foot I observe people very carefully and I play the Ego game.
I give a suggestion of ‘what’ and ‘how’ this person is better than me.
If I think I’m very smart, I have to remember that every person is better than me in something — I just have to guess what is it.
This is how I met Hilary and Lawrance. One Saturday morning, I decided to check the new coffee shop next to my gym and see if the place is comfortable. There was a man behind the bar, doing all coffees alone — no waiters— just him. He was very focused on what he was doing so I decided to look around and to not distract him. The place was very cosy, on all walls were pinned pictures of a person, growing coffee beans in Zimbabwe and the flag of the country.
I got my coffee and left. I couple of days later, I came back and this time the coffee shop was empty — they were almost closing for the day. The barman was very welcoming and we started to chat. Immediately, I discovered that he is the owner and recently, he left his job in finance because was driven by his passion and love — the coffee. He explained to me how he started his business from zero and how he met Lawrence. Lawrance was a coffee expert, that has been travelling all around the world and it was featured by many well-known televisions and media in the UK. He talked about Lawrance for about an hour and showed me a couple of videos presenting his work — he was very intelligent person, a recognized master of coffee.
Watching the videos, I realised that Lawrence is the homeless man that was lying in the garden next to the coffee shop and he was the person, for whom I thought: “He must be good at something.”
